“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us” John Dryden
Most people wait until midnight on New Years to introduce big change to their lives, but I would argue that you don’t need a new year to begin changing your life. You can decide to make change happen at any moment. What does intentional change look like and and how can we make the decision to change?
The simplest way to introduce change to our lives is through our habits. As mentioned in a previous post, habits are the building blocks that make up our daily lives because they are the basis for our routines and, consequently, shape the decisions we make.
Habits that are positive propel us toward our goals and add value to our lives. For someone trying to receive an educational degree, having the habit of studying daily would be invaluable. Anyone with the habit of exercising daily experiences additional energy and other benefits to their daily health. Although creating new positive habits takes time and effort, it is entirely possible to intentionally introduce new ones to our lives.
What positive daily habits have you created? If positive habits aren’t something you have introduced to your life yet, here are some easy positive habits you can begin developing immediately which will quickly add value to your life:
Reading
Exercising
Eating well
Going to sleep early
While these may appear insignificant, when practiced they will have a huge positive impact on your life. Remember, the key to creating a positive habit is to make the decision to do it daily. Make this moment your new years resolution and choose to introduce new positive habits to your life.
