Ideas

“Be great in act, as you have been in thought” William Shakespeare

All of recorded history is made up of ideas that have shaped our world. Everything you encounter on a daily basis started as an idea, whether it be the freeway you drive on or your toothbrush. In order for an idea to come to fruition, it needs to conceived (born) and nurtured (developed). We all have this ability birth and develop ideas that will impact the future.

One of the best ways to birth an idea is to solve a problem that needs a solution. Inventors in history have been known for seeing a problem as an opportunity to birth a solution. Examine problems in your life or the lives of others.

Another way to birth ideas to let yourself be inspired by the ideas that are already around you. Rather than having a problem to solve, this process is about creativity. Examine the simple and complex ideas that have had a profound impact on your life. As you dissect ideas you have exposed yourself to, think how you can take it to the next level or apply it to a different area in life.

Once an idea has been birthed, it is too easy to let the idea die. Because no one else will do it for you, you must see it through to implementation. This is the development process: taking an idea and turning it into reality. This process is about doing.

The first step to nurturing every idea is write it down! Too many ideas have been lost because people did not have the urgency to put it on paper. The next step is to do whatever it takes to turn it into reality, which looks different for each idea. If it takes a team to implement the idea, reach out to whoever it takes to make it possible. If the idea is intangible but communicable, create a blog or use social media as a platform to talk about the subject. Again, if you think an idea is great, do whatever it takes to see it to reality.

Remember that at the beginning, all the ideas seemed crazy. They were even scary for people to carry them out. But it was in the process of not giving up, and not listening to the naysayers that made all the positive changes in the world. If your dream keeps you up at night and you can’t get any rest because you can’t stop thinking about this idea that’s inside your head, It’s time to make it a reality. Never give up on your dreams.
